SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
The analyzer was designed for nonhazardous samples only. DONOT attempt to use the GeoPyc to
analyze any sample material whose safety has not been verified. During normal operation, fine
particles may become airborne or skin contact may occur with the sample.
TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL OPERATION
l Performing a calibration run using objects similar to the sample size and shape calibrates the con-
version factor used during analysis. A calibrated conversion factor yields more accurate results
than the calculated conversion factor.
l The closer the calibration object simulates the sample size, shape, and quantity, the better the cal-
ibration will be. Calibration with a reference standard works best.
l Performing an embedded blank run during each sample run is preferable to using stored blank
data.
l Dry Flo bed lengths no longer than the diameter of the chamber are recommended unless sample
shape demands otherwise.
l If final bed length must exceed the diameter of the chamber, increase the consolidation force. An
increase in force proportional to the increase in bed length is recommended.
l A single-object sample should be run in the smallest chamber in which it will fit, allowing for con-
solidated Dry Flo on all sides.
l Large sample quantities (of multi-piece samples) are more representative than small quantities,
therefore analyzing a larger quantity of sample in a large chamber may yield more accurate res-
ults than analyzing a small quantity of sample in a small chamber.
l The sample must constitute at least 25% of the final bed volume. The analyzer will calculate the
percent of sample volume automatically when:
o
Calculate percent sample volume is enabled in the SOP.
o
Using a zero depth set from a zero depth run that was performed using the same sample cham-
ber to be used for the sample run.
REMOTE BROWSERS
Remote browser sessions can be used to perform the same functions as the touch screen on the
analyzer with the exception of sending sample mass from an analytical balance to the analyzer.
