ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
INSPECTING CHIPPER KNIVES
DANGER/THROWN DEBRIS, CUT,
PINCH HAZARD: Make sure the
drum has come to a complete stop
before attempting any mainte-nance.
CAUTION: Do not use your hand to
check for drum movement.
DANGER/THROWN DEBRIS HAZ-
ARD: Do not use the clutch for
inspecting knives for any reason.
DANGER/THROWN DEBRIS, CUT,
PINCH HAZARD: Shut power unit
off before any maintenance is per-
formed.
Throttle engine down and disengage
the clutch.
Remove chipper hood lock pin and
open the hood.
Turn drum by hand until rst knife is
accessible.
Install drum lock pin.
Inspect knife. If knife needs to be
replaced, refer to “Changing Chipper
Knives” section.
If knife is in good condition, check all
knife bolts for tightness. Refer to torque
chart on page 46.
Remove the drum lock pin and rotate
the drum by hand until the next knife is
accessible.
Replace the drum lock pin.
Repeat steps 5 and 8 until all knives
are checked.
After inspecting all knives and bolts,
remove the drum lock pin.
Close chipper hood, install hood pin
and lynch pin.
