ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
CHANGING CHIPPER KNIVES
DANGER/THROWN DEBRIS, CUT,
PINCH HAZARD: Make sure the drum
has come to a complete stop before
attempting any maintenance.
CAUTION: Do not use your hand to
check for drum movement.
DANGER/THROWN DEBRIS HAZARD:
Do not use the clutch for changing
knives for any reason.
DANGER/THROWN DEBRIS, CUT,
PINCH HAZARD: Shut power unit off
before any maintenance is performed.
Throttle engine down and disengage the
clutch.
DANGER/CRUSH HAZARD: Failure to
use yoke locks may result in serious
injury or death.
Remove chipper hood lock pin and open
the hood.
Rotate drum so knife is accessible.
Install drum lock pin.
Remove the four (4) knife bolts.
Remove all dirt and chip particles from the
knife and knife pocket with a wire brush.
Inspect knife holder, knife clamp, knife
bolt, and threads for wear or damage. The
knife holder must be replaced if the holder
face has a groove worn more than 1/4"
from the leading edge. (Holder shown for
illustration of leading edge only.)
Reverse, grind or replace the knife.
Place the knife onto the knife holder,
before inserting bolts apply a light coating
of anti seize lubricant. Slide the knife back
(away from anvil) against the knife bolts.
Refer to torque chart on page 46.
Remove drum lock pin.
Repeat this process for each knife.
After changing knives, close chipper hood
and replace hood lock pin.
CAUTION:
Adjust anvil each time you re-
place or sharpen knives. Refer to adjust-
ing anvil clearance.
