Recoil Starter Removal
To remove recoil assembly from the engine:
1. Remove the three nuts that secure the recoil
assembly to the engine using a 8mm wrench.
See Figure 6.1.
2. Install the starter by following the above step in
reverse order. Tighten the screws to a torque of
53 - 71 in-lbs (6-8 Nm).

Starter Cup
The starter cup is a steel cup that is bolted to the fly-
wheel.
1. Inspect the inside of the starter cup. See Figure
6.2.
NOTE: If the starter was failing to engage the fly-
wheel, and the edges of the teeth inside the cup
are burred or damaged, replace the starter cup.
NOTE: If the starter cup is replaced, the com-
plete starter should be replaced as well, to pre-
vent a repeat failure.
2. Remove the starter cup by removing the fly-
wheel nut.
