General Description
Purpose
e-Series units are air-to-water Commercial Heat
Pump Water Heaters (CHPWHs) using R-513a refrig-
erant in a closed and factory charged circuit. A double
wall heat exchanger provides heat to a potable water
circuit. Potable water is piped to the heat pump in a
loop to and from external storage tanks. Circulation is
provided by the integral circulator in the heat pump.
Usage
The e-series of water heaters are designed to provide
hot water in a “Single Pass” conguration; meaning that
water is delivered at full usable temperature to the po-
table storage tank in one pass. This allows for faster re-
covery of usable water temperatures than in traditional
“Multi-Pass” congurations. This system is not an “on
demand” heater and does require external and strati-
ed storage to operate effectively. Building recirculation
loops must be returned to a separate “swing tank” to
preserve this stratication.
Ease of Installation
The enclosure is designed to minimize its footprint,
and to simplify placement considerations for mul-
tiple-unit installations. As a “monobloc” style heat
pump, the unit arrives ready to connect to electrical,
condensate, optional ducting, and potable water infra-
structure in the eld.
It features onboard defrost heaters and heat tracing
for cold climate usage, an integral circulator and con-
trol valve, and an internal condensate drain pan with a
pipe connection point. The system is coated to resist
salt spray corrosion for coastal environments. While
typically installed outdoors, interior locations with ade-
quate and consistent ventilation or heat gain can also
house the unit, such as large server rooms or parking
garages. e-Series heat pumps can also be fully duct-
ed, allowing installation indoors in rooms that would
not otherwise be suitable for the heat pump.
Controls and Electrical
The e-Series line is available in 208-230 and in 440-
480 3-phase variants. Units require a main power feed
and a secondary 120V power feed for the onboard
freeze protection, controls, and circulator. It is strongly
recommended that the 120V power feed come from
a power source with a backup generator if the unit is
installed in a location that experiences freezing con-
ditions, allowing freeze protection to continue during
a power outage. Optionally, a Unied Power Package
accessory can be ordered and installed to bring all
power in through a single primary voltage power feed.
All e-Series units are Modbus and BACnet
®
capable,
ready to be integrated into BMS systems by 3rd party
integrators using BACnet/IP and MSTP protocols.
All e-Series units have a CTA-2045 port for power util-
ity demand management and are certied UL 1995.
