7.5.3.1 Selecting a Contact Lens
The geometric data of the cornea serve to calculate
suggestions for all available contact lens types;
these are then entered into the list of suggestions.
The list at the very top specifies contact lens
geometries which most closely correspond to the
measured cornea. The list of suggestions thus
provides a ranking list of suggestions for lens fitting.
Suggestions for soft contact lenses always appear at
the bottom of the list (independent of quality of fit).
The contact lens parameters referring to the first
suggestion are automatically displayed in the
corresponding data fields:
Manufacturer
Lens type
Central radius
Eccentricity
Toricity (2
nd
central radius)
Diameter
Now either the parameters can be changed
individually, or another suggestion for a contact lens
can be transferred to the data fields by clicking the
corresponding line in the list of suggestions.
However, it is only possible to change contact lens
parameters if the lens type of the selected
manufacturer is available with these parameters.
Otherwise the program will select a lens most similar
to the one specified. Clicking the [+] and [-] buttons
thus always produces the next possible value (e.g.:
diameter 9.20 9.60).
After a change of lens type in the “Lens” or
“Manufacturer” field the best possible suggestion
for that lens type is first displayed.
To enter a user-defined contact lens, set the
“Manufacturer” field to “Mathematic” (topmost
field). After this all parameters can be set
individually, regardless of whether the desired lens is
available or not.
If toric lenses
are to be used, the program will
indicate the orientation of the flat meridian with the
symbol
. This symbol always appears next to the
input field for the larger
radius.
The following buttons are available for fitting contact
lenses:
[Calc. fluo.] starts the calculation of a fluo image
simulation (see next page).
[Hecht CL] starts a special contact lens fitting
software of the Hecht company (cf. 7.5.3.2.6 page
54).
[Details] enables you to process additional contact
lens parameters (cf. 7.5.3.2.3 page 52).
[Print] prints the image as is.
[Quit] ends the contact lens fitting routine.
The field titled “Display” allows to change the “data
of cornea” field (top left). Eccentricity, sagittal
curvature, top test or fluo icon can be chosen.
The “Position” field shows the position (shift and
rotation) of the contact lens on the cornea. (cf.
7.5.3.2.2 page 51)
Note Ö In the case of soft lenses, the “Ecc.” field
shows “Soft” and the [Calc. fluo.] button is
disabled, since fluo image simulation is not possible
for soft lenses.
