APPENDIX 5: MICRODRIVE-3 OPERATION FROM NON-STANDARD SUPPLIES
5C: UD3 220-480V, THREE PHASE SPECIAL
OPTIONS
It is possible to modify the UD3-2.5 to UD3-70 to operate from
220-480Vac, three phase supplies. This involves using a
specially modified version of EPROM and a small alteration to
the power circuit board. These modifications can be carried
out at the time of order or in the field by approved service
personnel.
When modified, the UD3 will perform as normal with the
following differences to accommodate the lower operating
voltage:
Item Description Standard Values Modified Values
Input supply voltage 380 to 480Vac 220 to 480Vac
Input supply tolerance -20% to +5% -20% to +5%
Default motor voltage
(Screen 11) 415V 220V
Low mains/
Supply fault trip level 400Vdc/280Vac 200Vdc/140Vac
Where the above option is required contact your supplier.

5A: UD3 DC SUPPLY
In addition to operation from standard three phase mains
supplies, the Microdrive-3 (UD3) may be operated at full power
directly from a DC supply.
Nominal DC supply voltage : 540650 Vdc
Max. DC supply voltage range : 450700 Vdc
Continuous DC input current : 1.2 x UD3 rated current
Maximum DC input current : 1.7 x UD3 rated current
Recommended DC fuse : 700Vdc; 2 x UD3 rated current
DC should be connected via suitable isolation and fuses to the
terminals of the UD3 - positive to the positive terminal and
negative to each of the three phase input terminals. When the
DC supply is livened the UD3 will respond and perform exactly
as if supplied from the standard AC supply.
5B: UD3 SINGLE PHASE AC SUPPLY
The Microdrive-3 (UD3) may be operated from a single phase
(two phase) supply, but the power rating must be reduced
to prevent overloading of the rectifier and DC power supply.
The UD3 incorporates automatic protection to prevent
excessive load being drawn when operated in this fashion.
Such an overload will cause the UD3 to trip.
Some current beating will be evident at certain frequencies
when the UD3 is supplied from a single phase supply. Generally
this will not affect motor operation.
UD3 output power rating: 50% of rated value
Nominal AC supply voltage : 380 - 480 Vac
Tolerance : -20% / +5%
Continuous AC supply current : 1.2 x UD3 rated
current
Recommended supply fuse : 1.5 x UD3 rated current
Maximum AC supply current : 1.7 x UD3 rated current
