Conditions Which Generate This Code:
The Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects the
following condition:
The signal from the keyswitch was erratic because
the power from the keyswitch was cycled at least
three times
within the last second.
Note: This code can be generated by rapidly
cycling th
e keyswitch. Some control modules on the
application may require this action in order to prompt
flash codes. If the flash codes appear, clear the
logged dia
gnostic codes in order to prevent future
confusion or an incorrect diagnosis.
System Re
sponse:
If equipped, the diagnostic lamp will come on. The
diagnost
ic code will be logged. The ECM will stop
energizing the injector solenoids.
Possibl
e Performance Effect:
The engine will shut down.
Troubleshooting:
Perfor

Keyswitch Circuit and Battery Supply Circuit - Test”
Resul
ts:

Cond
itions Which Generate This Code:
The Electronic Control Module (ECM) has detected
alo
w current condition after attempting to activate
the glow plug starting aid.
The
ECM detects the following conditions:
•
The engine is not cranking.
•
The ECM has been powered for at least 1 second.
•
Th
ere is a low current condition for more than 2
seconds.
•
N
o 0168 diagnostic codes are active.
System Response:
If equipped, the diagnostic light will come on. The
diagnostic code will be logged. An ECM that was
previously bl
ank will require a total of 2 hours of
operation before the diagnostic code will be logged.
Possible Per
formance Effect:
The ECM is unable to activate the positive relay for
the glow plu
g starting aid. The glow plugs will not
operate or the glow plugs will operate all the time.
Theenginem
ay be difficult to start in cold
temperatures and the exhaust may emit white smoke.
Troublesh
ooting:
This diagnostic code will detect a fault in the circuit
for the sol
enoid in the glow plug relay that is most
likely to be an open circuit.
Perform t
he following diagnostic procedure: “Starting
Aid (Glow Plug) Relay Circuit - Test”
Results:
•
OK – STOP.
