Use the electronic service tool in order to perform
the “Fuel Syste
mVerication Test”. If the cylinders
indicate “PASS”, then the fault has been cleared.
Use the electr
onic service tool in order to clear all
logged diagnostic codes and then verify that the
repair eliminates the fault.
STOP.
Test Step 3.
Check the ECM
A. Make sure that the latest ash le for the
applicatio
n is installed in the ECM. Refer to
Troubleshooting, “Flash Programming”.
B. Contact th
e Technical Help Desk.
Note: This consultation can greatly reduce the repair
time.
C. If the Technical Help Desk recommends the
use of a te
st ECM, install a test ECM. Refer to
Troubleshooting, “Replacing the ECM”.
D. Use the el
ectronic service tool in order to perform
the “Fuel System Verication Test”. Verify that the
test eliminates the fault.
Note: The “Fuel System Verication Test” will indicate
if the cylinder has a “Pass” or “Fail”. If the cylinders
indicat
e “Pass” then the fault has been cleared.
E. If the fault is resolved with the test ECM, reconnect
the sus
pect ECM.
F. Use the electronic service tool in order to perform
the “F
uel System Verication Test”.
Expected Result:
The test ECM clears the fault. Using the electronic
service tool in order to perform the “Fuel System
Veri
cation Test” with the suspect ECM indicates a
“FAIL” condition.
Resu
lts:
OK
Repair: The test ECM eliminates the fault and the
suspect ECM indicates a “FAIL” condition. Perform
the
following procedure:
1. Replace the faulty ECM.
2. Use the electronic service tool in order to clear
all logged diagnostic codes and then verify that
th
e repair eliminates the fault.
STOP.
Not OK The test ECM did not eliminate the fault.
Carefully repe
at this procedure from Test Step 1.

Injector Solenoid Circuit - Test
System Operation Description:
Use this procedure to troubleshoot any suspected
faults with the injector solenoids.
Use this procedure for the following diagnostic codes:
0001-05 Cylinder #1 Injector current below normal
0001-06 Cylinder #1 Injector current above normal
0002-05 Cylinder #2 Injector current below normal
0002-06 Cylinder #2 Injector current above normal
0003-05 Cylinder #3 Injector current below normal
0003-06 Cylinder #3 Injector current above normal
0004-05 Cylinder #4 Injector current below normal
0004-06 Cylinder #4 Injector current above normal
0005-05 Cylinder #5 Injector current below normal
0005-06 Cylinder #5 Injector current above normal
0006-05 Cylinder #6 Injector current below normal
0006-06 Cylinder #6 Injector current above normal
Perform this procedure under conditions that are
identical to the conditions that exist when the fault
occurs. Typically, faults with the injector solenoid
occur when the engine is warmed up and/or when
the engine is under vibration (heavy loads).
The engine has Electronic Unit Injectors (EUI)
that are mechanically actuated and electronically
controlled. The Electronic Control Module (ECM)
sends a pulse to each injector solenoid. The pulse is
sent at the correct time and for the correct duration
for a given engine load and speed. The solenoid is
mounted on top of the fuel injector body.
If an open circuit is detected in the solenoid, a
diagnostic code is generated. The ECM continues to
try to re the injector. If a short circuit is detected, a
diagnostic code is generated. The ECM will disable
the solenoid circuit. The ECM will periodically try
to re the injector. If the short circuit remains, this
sequence of events will be repeated until the fault
is corrected.
