About DV 1394
The TARGA 3000 card has the capability of accepting a IEEE-DV 1394 audio/video input
signal from a DV device (e.g., DV Camcorder, DV VCR, etc.,). Note that a DV-1394
cable carries both video and audio signals. Depending on the type of IEEE-1394/iLINK
cable that came with your TARGA 3000 or your DV device, you can connect the device to
either the 6-pin male 1394 connector or the 4-pin female 1394 connector on the TARGA
3000 card. Refer to Figure 1-1. To connect your DV device to the TARGA card:

1. Depending on the type of DV cable that you have, connect the appropriate end to
either the 6-pin or 4-pin DV connector on the TARGA 3000 Card.
2. Connect the other end of the DV cable to the DV IN/OUT or the DV OUT of the
input sending DV device (e.g., DV Camcorder, DV VCR, etc.,).
3. You can use the other DV connector (the one not used in Step 1 ) on the TARGA
card to route the output 1394 signal to another DV device, or use the Pro Analog
Breakout Box to output the data received from the DV inputting device as S-Video,
Component Video, or Composite Video.
About Device Control
Adobe Premiere and other video-editing software applications provide device control for
the device inputting to the TARGA 3000 card. This is useful to query information from
the inputting device like time code, pause, rewind, playback, etc., for example. Device
control can be accomplished in one of two ways.
