K6 K8 K10 K20 | SERVICE MANUAL
Replacing the amplier power supply board does not require any rmware update. If, however, the amplier board and/or the K front
board have been replaced, the rmware must be updated as for the following procedure. Given the fact that the model type number
is stored in the K front board and that the latter instructs the amplier control board, both boards must run the same rmware version.
In case the system detects a different rmware version in the 2 boards at power ON, the LCD display will display the “NO LINK” error
message. This is likely consequence of a complete amplier board replacement on an “old” amplier.
We suggest updating to the latest release all K amps DSPs you receive for service. To facilitate this, and to solve a possible “NO LINK”
error, we can ship a FIRMWARE UPDATE CARD (Powersoft code PC000112).
K amps WITHOUT DSP DO NOT NEED TO BE UPGRADED.
1. Turn off the amplier
2. Insert the rmware smartcard. Upper code is FW revision (e.g. 3.8.6-161). Lower code is KDSP and SHARC revision (e.g. 3.8.6-1406).
Contacts on bottom.
3. Press the rst and second push-buttons on the left of the front panel and keep them pressed (with one hand).
4. With the other hand, turn the amplier on and wait 3-6 seconds.
5. Soon after the fan test (full throttle blow), when the yellow LEDs on the panel begin to blink, you can release the buttons. The KFRONT
panel is being updated.
6. After about 4 minutes, you can see a message box (if you are upgrading from a 2.0.x rmware release) that tells you that the current
settings are lost, and that you should verify the settings after the update. Please check amplier settings after the update. Updating from
a 2.94.x or 3.x.x should however maintain your settings unchanged.
7. If a KDSP is present (DSP optional board), the KDSP update begins, its progress indicated on a progress bar. After about 4 minutes,
the update is complete. If a KDSP is NOT present, a START ERROR message is displayed, requiring a BACK push-button conrmation.
8. The KCNTRL update begins, its percentage of completion shown as a progress bar. After about 2 minutes, the update is complete.
9. Finally, a message asking you if you want to update the SHARC DSP is displayed. By pressing OK, the SHARC DSP is updated. The
update can last as long as 15 minutes, and works only if the amplier is powered from mains (NOT from a PowerHub!); therefore, make
sure that the mains supply is not disconnected during the above steps.
10. Verify update: go to Setup->Hardware Info, press more, the display should read:
KFRONT: X.Y.Z – B KCNTRL: X.Y.Z – B KDSP: X.Y.Z – S WHERE: X.Y.Z is rmware version, B is build number (meaningless) and S
is SHARC rmware version.
CAUTION:
If the update process is interrupted before completion, you must repeat all the steps from number 1, because 2 different FW
versions could be present on your boards; this could cause amplifier to malfunction.
Always verify the update results as explained in step 10.
14. Firmware Update Procedure:
Firmware update procedure for K-Series:
Main functional parts of all K Series ampliers:
1. KFRONT = microcontroller that handles the front panel interface (4 pushbuttons + display)
2. KCNTRL = microcontroller that supervises the amplier and power supply if a DSP is installed.
3. KDSP = microcontroller that handles the DSP parameters
4. SHARC = signal processor
The rmware update procedure updates the KFRONT, then the KDSP, then the KCNTRL, and nally the SHARC.
Updating the Amplifier (MAIN):
After these tests, remove the SERVICE CTRL BOARD and the SERVICE FRONT DISPLAY BOARD with special rmware vers. 2.0.5 and
reinstall the original CTRL and FRONT DISPLAY boards.
Reinstall the latest Firmware version by using the rmware card
Re-assemble the original boards
