Removing an old thermostat
• Be certain all power to the heating or cooling system is disconnected.
• Remove the cover of the old unit, and identify each wire by placing a piece of tape
with the terminal designation marked on it before disconnecting the wires.
• Remove the existing thermostat from the wall while securing the wires to prevent
them from falling back into the wall.
Location
• Locate the thermostat 4 to 5 feet above the floor on an inside wall in accordance with
applicable codes.
• Locate the unit in an area with good air circulation, and of average temperature.
• Avoid areas affected by drafts, dead spots behind doors or in corners, exposure to
direct airflow from ducts, and exposure to significant radiant heat from sunlight,
lamps, or other appliances.
