Removing an old thermostat
Be certain all power to the heating or cooling system is disconnected.
Remove the cover of the old unit, and identify each wire by placing a piece of tape
with the terminal designation marked on it before disconnecting the wires.
Remove the existing thermostat from the wall while securing the wires to prevent
them from falling back into the wall.
Location
Locate the thermostat 4 to 5 feet above the floor on an inside wall in accordance with
applicable codes.
Locate the unit in an area with good air circulation, and of average temperature.
Avoid areas affected by drafts, dead spots behind doors or in corners, exposure to
direct airflow from ducts, and exposure to significant radiant heat from sunlight,
lamps, or other appliances.
