5.14 Pulse Velocity Calibration
PD8050 measures shear waves, which are also called S-waves. The velocity of the ultrasound
waves depends on the quality, homogeneity, and density of the material. This is why it is very
important to calibrate first the wave velocity in each specific concrete element.

Calibration of the speed of sound based on the thickness of the test object:
The speed of sound is determined at a point on the test object whose thickness is
known through a comparison measurement. If access is one-sided, penetrations or
exploratory drillings can be used for calibration.
