Overview

This document describes a folding and inserting system designed for efficient mail processing.

Function Description

The system automates several key mail processing tasks:

  • Feeding Documents: It feeds documents from various feeders. There are two types: automatic and special feeders. Automatic feeders do not require adjustments for separation and can handle one or more documents (multi-feed) with double feed control (DFC) to detect if more than one document is fed. Special feeders require manual adjustment for separation.
  • Folding Documents: The Folder unit folds documents into various types: No fold, V-fold, C-fold, Z-fold, and Double V-fold.
  • Inserting Documents into Envelopes: After folding, documents are transported to the inserter, which places them into waiting envelopes.
  • Sealing Envelopes: The inserter can seal envelopes based on settings.
  • Stacking Envelopes: The system stacks inserted documents automatically.
  • Automatic Monitoring: Ensures the correct number of documents per envelope.
  • User-Friendly Interface: The system is operated via a touch screen, similar to a tablet, supporting tap, swipe, tap and hold, and pinch in/out gestures.
  • Job Management: Settings for processing mail sets (envelope type/size, sealing, feeder usage, fold settings, reading settings, exit settings, batch counter) can be saved as "jobs" for quick recall. Jobs can be created automatically or manually.
  • Document Separation: Adjustments ensure that only one document is pulled from the stack at a time. Automatic feeders handle this automatically, while special feeders require manual adjustment.
  • Mail Sets with BRE or Inserts: The system can process mail sets that include Business Reply Envelopes (BRE) or other inserts.
  • Daily Mail: Supports processing individual mail sets manually, allowing for different build-ups per set.
  • Custom Envelopes and Documents: Users can define custom envelope and document sizes.
  • Feeder Linking: Two feeders can be linked, allowing the system to automatically switch to the second feeder when the first is empty, enabling continuous operation.
  • Reading Option: The system can read special codes (BCR 1D, BCR 2D, OMR, Flex 1-9) printed on documents to gather information about processing, such as document set completeness, enclosure requirements, system stops, and exit destinations.
  • Automated Insertion Management System (AIMS): An optional software feature that monitors document progress in real-time, providing various levels of reporting on document processing and system performance.
  • Web Browser: A built-in web browser allows navigation through web sites directly from the user interface.
  • Remote Assistance (optional): Provides online remote assistance for helpdesk guidance, requiring an internet connection.
