This document is an installation and user's manual for the Quick DP Series Vertical Windlasses, designed and manufactured by Quick S.P.A. in Italy. The manual covers three main models: DP1, DP2, and DP3, with various power options and configurations.
Function Description
The Quick DP Series Vertical Windlasses are designed specifically for weighing anchor on boats. They are not intended for any other type of operation. The windlasses are equipped to handle both chain and rope, with specific gypsy designs for different chain and rope sizes. They can be operated electrically via various control accessories or manually using a handle.

Usage Features
- Operation: The windlass can be operated electrically using various Quick® accessories (control boards, push-button panels, foot switches, chain counters, radio controls) or manually.
- Clutch System: A clutch mechanism allows for manual disengagement of the gypsy from the main shaft, enabling free-fall anchoring. Re-engagement is done by turning the handle clockwise.
- Motorgearbox Rotation: The motorgearbox can be rotated every 45° in relation to the windlass base, offering flexibility in installation.
- Flange Mounting (700W - 1000W models): The flange can be fixed on both sides of the gearbox, and the gearbox can be rotated 180° to change mounting modes, maintaining overall dimensions.
- Safety Precautions:
- Always supervise the work area during operation.
- Deactivate the windlass when not in use.
- Ensure no bathers are nearby before dropping anchor.
- Secure the chain with a retainer before sailing.
- Never operate the windlass electrically with the handle inserted.
- Install a circuit breaker for motor protection and accidental activation prevention.
- Secure the anchor to fixed points (chain stopper or bollard) after anchoring; the windlass is not a sole securing device.
- Isolate the windlass from the electrical system during navigation.
- Installation Requirements:
- Proper alignment of the gypsy with the bow roller is crucial.
- A positive chain tilt of up to 10° is allowed; excessive negative tilt can interfere with the windlass base.
- Ensure the deck surfaces are parallel; compensate for differences if necessary.
- Verify sufficient peak depth and bow roller height to prevent chain jamming.
- Use the provided drilling template for accurate hole placement.
- Smooth the rope/chain passage hole to prevent damage.
Maintenance Features
- Regular Cleaning: Windlasses are made of marine-resistant materials, but periodic removal of salt deposits from external surfaces is essential to prevent corrosion. Thoroughly wash surfaces with fresh water.
- Annual Disassembly and Greasing: Once a year, disassemble the gypsy and drum (if applicable) according to the provided sequence. Clean all removed parts and grease the shaft thread and clutch cones with marine grease.
- Electrical Terminal Maintenance: Remove any oxide deposits from the electric motor terminals and the reversing contactor unit, then grease them.
- Professional Servicing: If required, the windlass must be disassembled by qualified personnel.
- Troubleshooting:
- If the windlass stops and the circuit breaker has not tripped, wait a few seconds and try again (avoid continuous button pressing).
- If the circuit breaker has tripped, reset it and wait a few minutes before trying again.
- If the windlass remains blocked after several attempts, move the boat to release the anchor.
- Product Disposal: At the end of its life, the product must be dismantled by qualified personnel. Dispose of materials according to local regulations, separating recyclable components and hazardous substances. Do not dispose of as domestic waste.
