The barometric pressure is measured by the analyzer's built-in barometer, and the
effect of barometric pressure on blood samples is compensated by the analyzer’s
software.
Quality control result for pO
2
obtained on aqueous quality control solutions at low
barometric pressure (at high altitudes) is affected as the properties of aqueous
solutions differ from those of blood. The deviation from the pO
2
value obtained at
sea level can be expressed by an altitude correction that can be added to the control
ranges.
The relationship between the altitude and barometric pressure can be expressed by
the following equation:
