Onvesselswithoutarudderreferencetransducer,itisimportant
tosetaHardOverTime.
Beforeattemptingtofollowthisprocedureensureyouhave
readandunderstoodtheRudderCheckwarningprovidedin
thisdocument.
Toestimateyourhardovertimefollowthestepsbelow:
1.OnSmartPilotandSPXsystems,adjustyourRudderGain
settingtothemaximumvalue,makinganoteoftheoriginal
value.TheRudderGainsettingcanbeaccessedfromthe
DriveSettingmenu:Menu>Set-up>AutopilotCalibration
>DriveSettings>RudderGain.
2.WiththeautopilotinStandby,manuallyturntherudder/
enginefulltoport.(Forvesselswithpowersteeringthe
engineshouldberunningwhenturningtherudder.)
3.EngageAutomode.
4.Pressthe+10and+1buttonsatthesametime(p70)or
usetheRotary(p70R)toalteryourlockedheadingby90
degrees,useastopwatchtotimethemovementofthe
rudder/engine.
5.Estimatehowlongitwouldtaketomovetherudderfromfull
porttofullstarboard.ThisestimateisyourHardOverTime.
6.EnterthisestimateasyourHardOverTime.TheHardOver
timesettingcanbeaccessedfromtheDriveSettingsmenu:
Menu>Set-up>AutopilotCalibration>DriveSettings>
HardOverTime.
7.OnSmartPilotandSPXsystemschangeyourRudderGain
backtoitsoriginalvalue.
8.AftersettingyourHardOverTime,observeyourautopilot’s
behaviorandifrequired,makesmalladjustmentstotheHard
OverTimevalueuntilasatisfactoryresultitachieved.

8.9Seatrialcalibration
Beforeyoucanusetheautopilotopenwaterchecksare
required.Thewatermustbecalm,withlightornowind.Leave
plentyofroomtomanoeuvre.TheSeaTrialwizardguidesyou
throughthestepsrequiredforSeatrialcalibration.
TheSeatrialwizardincludesthefollowingsteps:
•Swingcompass
•AligncompasstoGPS
•Aligncompassmanually
•AutoLearn.
YoucanaccesstheSeatrialwizardatanytimefromthe
Commissioningmenu:Menu>Set-up>Autopilotcalibration
>Commissioning.
Note:Sailingvesselsshouldperformtheseatrialunder
enginepower.
Note:TheSeatrialwizardcanbecancelledatanytimeby
pressingtheStandbybutton.
Warning:Seatrialcalibration
Ensureyouhavesufcientsearoomforcalibration.
Theseatrialcalibrationmaneuversrequireaclear,
familiarareaofwater.Ensureyouarenotlikelyto
collidewithanyvesselorotherobstructionduring
calibration.
Warning:Maintainsensiblespeeds
Theautopilotmaymakeunexpectedturns.
Compassswing
Youwillneedtoturnyourvesselinslowcircleswhilethesystem
automaticallymakesadjustmentstoaccountforcompass
deviation.Each360-degreecircleshouldtakenolessthantwo
minutes,andyoushouldcompleteatleasttwocircles.
1.Startmovingvesselinslowevencircles,thenpressSTART.
2.Keepspeedtobelow2knots.Watchthedisplaytoensure
yourturnrateisnottoofast.Ifthemessage‘SlowDown’is
displayedreduceyourrateofturn,thiscanbeachievedby
slowingdownand/orsteeringinawidercircle.
Ifa'SlowDown'messageisdisplayedthecurrentcirclewill
havetoberepeated.
3.Whenthecompasshasbeencalibrated,amessagewillbe
displayedshowingthedetecteddeviation.Ifthisismorethan
15degreesyouwillneedtoabortthecalibrationprocess
andresitethecompassfurtherawayfrommetalitems,then
repeatthecalibrationprocess.Ifyoustillndadeviation
ofmorethan15degrees,contactyourRaymarinedealer
foradvice.Ifthedeviationiswithinacceptablelimits,press
CONTINUE.
YoucancancelSeatrialcalibrationatanytimebypressing
STANDBY.
AligningcompasstoGPS
Note:SystemswithoutaGPSwillskipthissectionandgo
straighttoManualcompassalignment.
IfyoursystemhasaGPSconnectedtoyourdatanetwork
(SeaTalk,SeaT alk
ng
orNMEA),theautopilotistunedtotheGPS
headingwhileyousteertoaknownmagneticheading.This
stepprovidesaroughalignmentandminimizestheamountof
compassnetuningrequired.
1.Steerthevesselonasteadycoursewithminimaltide,
increasespeedtomorethan3knotsandpressSTARTto
alignthecompasstoGPS.
2.Followtheon-screeninstructionsuntiltheprocesscompletes,
presstheCONTINUEbuttonwhenitisavailabletobegin
autolearn.
YoucancancelSeatrialcalibrationatanytimebypressing
STANDBY.
