RudderDamping
Iftheautopilotis‘hunting’(i.e.continuouslymovingthesteering
backwardsandforwardsbysmallamounts)whentryingto
positiontherudder,therudderdampingsettingwillrequire
adjustmenttominimizethis.
Increasingtherudderdampingvaluereduceshunting.The
rudderdampingvalueshouldbeincreased1levelatatime
untiltheautopilotstopshunting.Alwaysensurethelowest
acceptablevalueisused.
IfrequiredtheRudderDampingsettingcanbeadjustedfromthe
DriveSettingsmenu:Menu>Set-up>AutopilotCalibration>
DriveSettings>RudderDamping.
AutoTrimsettings
AutoTrimdetermineshowquicklytheautopilotapplies‘standing
helm’tocorrectfortrimchanges,caused,forexample,by
changesinthewindloadonthesuperstructure,oranimbalance
ofengines.IncreasingtheAutoTrimlevelreducesthetimethe
autopilottakestoreturntothecorrectcourse,butmakesthe
vessellessstable.Iftheautopilot:
•Givesunstablecoursekeepingandthevessel‘snakes’around
thedesiredcourse,decreasetheAutoTrimlevel.
•Hangsoffcourseforexcessiveperiodsoftime,increasethe
AutoTrimlevel.
