Updating Software
MESA Software Updates must be performed with the MESA unit connected to the AC Power Supply and
with the battery sufficiently charged. This is necessary to prevent the MESA from losing power during
the update process.
To update MESA software:
1. Download the latest software from REI’s website: https://reiusa.net/
2. Copy the downloaded .bin file onto the root drive of a USB drive (formatted for FAT32 — see
note below).
3. Insert the USB thumb drive into the MESA.
4. After the MESA has a few seconds to read the drive, the software update screen is displayed.
This screen will indicate the version number found. Confirm that it is the expected version.
5. Select "YES", and the MESA will begin the software update. The software update can take
upwards of 10 – 15 minutes. A progress bar is active during the update. DO NOT REMOVE THE
USB THUMB DRIVE DURING THIS PROCESS.
6. At the end of the software update, the MESA will automatically restart.
Note: The MESA 2.0 is shipped with a USB thumb drive formatted with the file system FAT32. If using a
user-supplied USB thumb drive, please ensure it is formatted with FAT32 (or exFAT). Only MESA 2.0 (and
MESA 1.0) units installed with the latest software update will support the exFAT file system. The NTFS
file system is not supported.
