6.1.1 Watermaker
In order to solve the problem of water supply and to ensure constant avail-
ability even during long voyages, the yacht has been equipped with a water-
maker system.
The watermaker is installed in the systems room and sucks the sea water
through the centralized sea inlet by means of an electric pump and, after
havinglteredandtreatedit,sendsittotheonboardtank.
Theseawater,beforebeingdesalted,islteredallowingtoretaineverything
that can be called “suspension”, such as small algae and impurities of the
water, which can cause clogging of the internal membranes of the water-
maker even in short times.
The watermaker is capable of producing bacteriologically pure water and
can therefore be used for on-board applications as well as for drinking and
cooking. Excess water and saline concentrate are drained out of the board.
In order to avoid the problem of salts depositing on the internal membranes
and their crystallization over time, the system is equipped with a manual
freshwaterushingsystem.Becauseoftheimportanceofthisoperation,
clean the internal membranes of the watermaker according to the proce-
duresandintervalsspeciedbythemanufacturer.
On the general electrical panel located in the engine room, there is a special
magneto-thermal switch that supplies and protects the watermaker system.

CAUTION
The watermaker is to be kept in good condition by scrupulously following

duction of non-potable water unsuitable for on-board use.
CAUTION
The watermaker does not eliminate all dangerous agents present in pollut-
edwaters(seespecicmanual).Usethewatermakeronlyincleanwaters,
to avoid contamination of its membranes, tanks and of the whole circuit.
CAUTION
In order to prevent premature clogging of the watermaker lters and
membranes, do not use the system where sea water is dirty or contains
suspended sand.
MAINTENANCE
At least once a month verify:
• Thecorrectoperation;
• The oil level in the pump.
Periodically perform a fresh water washing cycle.
At least once a year, change the oil of the pump.
Whennecessarycleanthelter.
CAUTION
The watermaker should be used only in surely clean water, to prevent
contaminating its membranes, reservoirs and the entire circuit.
