6.2 SEA WATER SYSTEMS
The sea water systems on board are:
• Engine cooling system
consisting of two circuits, one for the starboard engine and the other
for the port engine. Sea water is sucked directly by the inner pumps of
the same engines by means of two sea cocks equipped with two cut-off
valvesandstrainers.Thewaterdrawnbytheenginesowsthroughthe
strainers and is then conveyed to the heat exchangers of the engines
and gearboxes and later discharged overboard by means of engine
exhausts.
• The power generator cooling system
consists of two circuits, one for each power generator. Sea water is
sucked directly by the pump of each generator, by means of a sea
cock equipped with cut-off valve and strainer. After going through the
strainers, the water sucked by the generators is delivered to the heat
exchangers and then discharged overboard through the exhaust con-
sistingofamuferandfume/waterseparator.
• Services system
The circuit is composed of an aspiration to sea with shut-off valve, a
strainer sea water and inspected by a valved manifold for distribution to
the group of air conditioning, the pump sea water and the watermaker.
• Gyroscopic stabilizers cooling system
Consisting of two circuits, one for each stabiliser, which draw water
from the same sea inlet equipped with a shut-off valve and strainer, by
meansoftwopumps(1foreachstabiliser).
CAUTION
When the yacht is not operated for long periods of time the autoclave
should be drained by means of relevant magneto-thermal switch.
CAUTION
Before carrying out cleaning of the sea cock strainer, check that uses sup-
plied with sea water are not on and used: sea water pump, watermaker,
air conditioning unit.
The cleaning of the strainers of the inlet valves must be carried out at a fre-
quence based on the use of the system and to the conditions of the sucked
water.
• Close the valve of the relevant sea inlet.
• Close any valves upstream of the affected strainer.
• Remove the strainer cover by unscrewing the screws.
• Remove the strainer bucket and clean up any impurities with fresh water.
Replace the strainer if necessary.
• Retthebasketandstrainercover.
• Open any valves upstream of the affected strainer.
• Before restarting the system circuit, make sure that the screws and their
washers are correctly tightened with the ring and disc on the strainer hous
-
ing.
• Fully open the sea inlet valve and check for leaks in the strainer cover.
CAUTION
In case of sinking hazard, if the escaping conditions allow it, close all ball
valves of the sea intakes.
