DANGER
On all yachts, re is one of the greatest dangers on board. For this rea-

of re.
Before operating a yacht, the captain must be familiar with the following re
prevention regulations.
This yacht must always be tted with portable re extinguishers positioned
as shown in the gure “Safety Equipment Arrangements”.
CAUTION
Battery gas may explode. Keep sparks and ames away from batter-
ies. Using a pocket bulb to check the electrolyte level.
Sulphuric acid in the battery electrolyte is poisonous. It can burn skin,
corrode clothing and cause blindness if splashed into the eyes.
To avoid hazards:
- Rell batteries in a well ventilated area.
- Wear safety goggles and rubber gloves.
- Avoid breathing vapours when adding distilled water.
- Avoid spilling or draining the electrolyte.
If the acid comes into contact with the body:
- Wash skin with water.
- If it has splashed into the eyes, wash with water for at least 15 min-
utes.
- Seek medical attention immediately.
- If acid has been ingested, seek medical attention immediately.
It is the direct responsibility of the owner and the master of the yacht to do
the following:
Have re extinguishers and re-ghting systems serviced by the date
marked on them and replace them, when required by current regulations,
with similar ones or ones of at least equivalent capacity if not higher;
Inform crew members of the location and use of re extinguishers, re
protection systems and emergency exits.;
Ensure that re extinguishers are also accessible in passenger cabins.
WARNING
NEVER DO THE FOLLOWING:
Block access to passages and emergency exits;
Block access to safety devices such as fuel valves, electrical switch-

Smoke near or when handling ammable materials;
Store highly ammable materials (such as combustibles, thinners,
etc..) near heat sources such as engines, cookers, etc.., in order to
avoid damage;
Store ammable material in the engine room. Any non-combustible
material may only be stowed if securely secured so that it cannot ac-
cidentally end up against rotating engine parts or cause difculty of
access to the engine room.
Keep bilge clean and frequently check for oil and fuel leaks.
