6 - WATER SYSTEMS 160
6.4 BLACK WATER SYSTEM
The system essentially consists of a tank and a black water pump which
discharges outboard. The water used for washing the WCs is drawn from
the cold water circuit via the distribution manifold.
On the manifolds are installed solenoid valves for each WC, which allow the
inputofwatereverytimeyoupressthekeys“BEFOREUSE”or“AFTER
USE”.
Each WC has a macerator pump that conveys the black water into the col-
lecting tank. The tank is located in the bilge below the starboard guest room.
A pump in the systems room empties the tank via a suction line, which dis-
charges outboard.
Thetankisequippedwithoatminimum,earlywarningandmaximumlevel
for the automatic start/stop of the black water pump and for the alarm signals
on the dashboard and WC block.
The exhaust control can be operated in manual and automatic mode by
means of the buttons on the synoptic panel on the dashboard.
Please remember that a circuit to delay of some seconds both the activation
andthedeactivationofthepumphasbeeninstalledontheoatinsidethe
holding tank.
The start delay prevents that, in case of ship rolling, the pump primes
with the wake.
The switching off delay ensures that the pump sucks also the residual
liquidsbelowtheminimumleveloat.
The black water pump, in automatic operation, starts and stops every time
the expected level is reached.
The black water pump can be activated manually by means of the relative
screen on the on-board monitoring system or by means of the buttons on the
main electrical panel in the technical room.
.
CAUTION
In case of need, break or pollution of the tanks, they can be replaced.
Contact the RIVA Service Department.
Before entering port it is recommended to monitor the status of the tank and
assess whether to unload at sea or use port services by checking in ad-
vance if the port to which you are heading has the ability to empty the tank
through the outlet.
CAUTION
Within 12 nautical miles from the coast it is forbidden to discharge into the
sea the black water tank: it is necessary to keep the drain pump deacti-
vated, to exclude the automatic activation if present.
Procedure for emptying through the shoreside nozzle.
Handle the tube with caution so as not to dirty the teak on the bridge, wet
it beforehand.
Insert the drain nozzle correctly and secure it.
Useport’ssewagecollectionservicewithvacuum.
After completing the operation, disconnect the tube correctly and place
caution again so as not to dirty the teak of the bridge, rinse if necessary.
Correctly reposition the valves in the black water inlet position in the
tank.
