14.12 BILGE PUMPS

Problem Cause Corrective action
1. Bilge pump does not run. No water pumped • Wire connections
• Blown
• Check wire connection integrity, make sure
wire connections are not corroded
• A visual check may not be enough, a slight pull
on each wire will indicate if wires are still con-
nected
• Check to ensure that no wire joints are hanging
down into the water
• Check the correct fuse size (fuse size is print-
ed on the side of the bilge pump)
• If fuse size is correct, check the impeller
through the inlet opening to be sure it is not
jammed or stuck with debris
2. Repeated blown fuse • Fuse rating or clogged impeller • Re-check fuse to verify compliance to pump
specications
• Also examine impeller area & clean any ob-
structions
