3 - SAFETY DEVICES AND EQUIPMENT 68
CAUTION
The engine room of this yacht shall be equipped with an FM-200 re-
ghting system.
CAUTION
If a re occurs in the vicinity of electrical equipment, never use water, but
hand-operated powder extinguishers. To avoid asphyxiation and physical
damage, leave the area immediately after use and then ventilate it thor-
oughly before entering again.
Thoroughly clean the deposited dust.
In addition to the above standards, RIVA recommends the following:
Avoid smoking in the lower deck and especially in the garage, systems
room and engine room.
Keep bilge clean and avoid spilling liquids, especially in engine room. If
fuel leaks from engines or generators occur, do the following:
- Stop all engines immediately;
- Locate the source of the leak and repair it if possible after closing the
supply valves;
- Dry and clean bilges before restarting engines without discharging into
the sea or harbour..
Take care not to place any ammable objects near heat sources such as
engines, cookers, halogen lamps, etc.
If there is a leak in the yacht try to stop it with turaeal swabs and/or rags
by intervening, if possible, from outside.
If a system (pipe) breaks in the yacht, all the hull valves should be closed,
the leak detected and, if possible, repaired. Remember to reopen the hull
valves that are not affected.
CAUTION
The master of a yacht shall have knowledge of basic re ghting tech-
niques and the use of re extinguishers.
In case of re, follow these procedures:
Keep calm and avoid panic among passengers;
Stop the yacht, close the sea connections and the drains;
Set the battery breaker to “OFF”;
Close engine room air intakes;
Locate the point of re and its origin;
Avoid aspirating smoke;
Extinguish the re using standard re extinguishing techniques;
For engine room and garage res see “engine room and garage re
ghting system” on the following pages of this manual.
DANGER
If the yacht sinks, close the fuel taps and the black water taps.
CAUTION
It is recommended that you read this section where the information the
master of your yacht needs to know is collected.
