3.4 ENGINE ROOM FIRE-FIGHTING SYSTEM
The engine room and the technical room is protected by its own re-ghting
system, with automatic or manual activation, which uses type FM200 gas as
as extinguishing agent. The cylinder is installed on the bow bulkhead of the
engine room.
he cylinder is installed on the stern bulkhead of the technical room.
The discharge is automatically activated by means of a glass ask lled with
liquid; when the temperature rises, the liquid expands until the ask breaks,
and the extinguisher discharge activates.
The ask is tted on the same cylinder. The extinguishers can also be acti-
vated manually; its discharge is controlled by tie rod located on the technical
room access ladder.
The system is equipped with a control unit which in case of discharge, auto-
matically stops the engines, the generators and the extractors in the engine
room.
In the main helm station there is a panel for the control of the reghting
system, described hereunder:
1. Green light
Indicates that the extinguisher is full.
2. Red light
Indicates that the extinguisher is empty.
3. SILENCE button
It turns off the acoustic signal which indicates that the system is operat-
ing and that the extinguisher is releasing gas.
4. DIMMER
It varies the brightness of the control lights of the CHARGE/ OVERRIDE
panel.
5. OVERRIDE button
- When this button is pressed, the control unit which, in case of extinguisher
discharge, stops the engines, generators and electric extractors, is cut off.
- In OVERRIDE position the control unit is disabled.
