Thisvehicleisequippedwithsupplementalrestraintsystem(SRS)airbags,designedto
protectthedriverandpassengersfromupperandlowerbodyinjuries.Theairbags
supplementthecrashprotectionprovidedbycorrectlyfastenedseatbelts.Thevehicleis
equippedwithbothanairbagandshoulderseatbeltsatthedriverandfrontpassenger
seatingpositions.
Thesupplementalairbagsarenotasubstituteforwearingseatbelts.Alloccupants,
includingthedriver,shouldweartheirseatbeltsevenifanairbagisprovided.Failuretouse
seatbeltsincreasestheriskofsevereinjuryordeathintheeventofacrash.
Theairbagsdonotrequireroutinemaintenance.Ifitisnecessarytomodifytheairbag
systemforapersonwithdisabilities,contactRivianService.
AirbagSystemStatus
Beforeyoudrivethevehicle,anairbagstatusindicatorappearsinthedriverdisplayfora
fewsecondsduringthefunctioncheck.Afterthefunctioncheck,theairbagstatusindicator
turnsoff.
Ifthereisafaultintheairbagsystem,theairbagstatusindicatorremainson.ContactRivian
Serviceforrepair.
HowtheAirbagsWork
Theairbagsystemsensorsdetectwhencollisionforcesreachacertainthreshold.Ifthereis
significantcollisionforce,theairbagsdeployinstantlyandsimultaneouslywithaloudbang.
Notallcollisionsdeploytheairbags.Forexample,certainrearcollisionsandlowerspeed
collisionsdonotdeploytheairbags.Thisdoesnotindicateamalfunctionoftheairbags.
