4 Key Operations
4.1 Key operation of FPD
42 FPD-2010
4.1.3 Setting the Detector Gas
Press the [DET] key to display the setting screen of the FPD.
Pressing the [Det Gas] of the PF menu displays the detector gas setting screen. Set the flow rate
of hydrogen and air respectively. Set each flow rate referring to the following values.
With sulfuric (S) components:
Hydrogen : Approx. 60 ml/min
AIR : Approx. 70 ml/min
With Phosphorus (P) components:
Hydrogen : Approx. 80 ml/min
AIR : Approx. 120 ml/min
When the carrier gas flow rate is large in the analysis such as a wide bore column is used, the hydrogen
flame is apt to be extinguished during solvent or sample component eluting. It is recommended that the
carrier gas flow rate is less than
5ml/min.
If the flow rate is larger than 5ml/min, change the analysis conditions as follows.
(1) Adjust the Shield ring height higher than the standard position. (ex. 2mm higher)
(2) Set flow rate as follows. The sensitivity decrease but the flame is less likely to be extinguished.
For sulfur compound For phosphorous compound
Recommended H2 : 60ml/min, Air : 70ml/min H2 : 80ml/min, Air : 120ml/min
When Column flow rate
is large.
H2 : 80ml/min, Air : 110ml/min
column flow rate > 10ml/min
H2 : 85ml/min, Air : 110ml/min
column flow rate : 5 to 10ml/min
H2 : 100ml/min, Air : 100ml/min
column flow rate > 10ml/min
