2 Installation Conditions
LCMS-8045/8050
Pre-Installation Requirements
5
2. Installation Conditions
Be sure to read the installation precautions described below to ensure correct and safe use of the instrument.
Also, follow the precautions given in the Safety Precautions of the instruction manual that came with the instrument.
2.1 Corrosive Gas and Dust
To prolong the service life and performance of the instrument, avoid installing the instrument in dusty locations or
locations subject to corrosive gases.
2.2 Ventilation and Open Flame Precautions
Some solvents used in liquid chromatograph mass spectrometers are inflammable and poisonous. Also, large
quantities of nitrogen gas are used on this instrument. Be sure to ventilate inside the installation room.
Open flames inside the installation room are forbidden, in particular, when using flammable solvents. Also, avoid
installing other instruments that are likely to emit open flames inside the same installation room. Adopt antistatic
measures.
Make sure that a fire extinguisher is on hand at all times by way of precaution for ignition or fire accident.
Install a washbasin near the instrument so that you wash your face or hands with running water if solvents should
contact your eyes or you are splashed with toxic solvents.
Be sure to discharge the evacuation gases from the rotary pump, the solvent vapor that builds up in the drain container,
and nitrogen gas into a duct system such as a draft chamber.
2.3 Electromagnetic Noise
Do not install the instrument near equipment that generates strong magnetism.
Also, add a noise blocking measure (e.g. noise filter) when there is a lot of noise on the power line.
2.4 Installation Space
The LCMS-8045, 8050 is designed for use on a desktop or a similar flat working surface. (*See 2.7 System Installation
Example.)
The working surface on which the instrument is installed should be firm, stable and flat, capable of withstanding the
weight of the entire LCMS system including the LC hardware, and have a depth of at least 75 cm.
At least 30 cm of space is sometimes required to the right of the MS unit for maintenance. At the right of the
instrument, position the PC, printer or other hardware that can be moved so as to allow at least 30 cm of space
between the MS unit and the wall or instrument which is difficult to move. Also, allow at least 5 cm of space between
the LC and the left side of the MS unit.
The rotary pump is positioned on the floor at the back of the MS unit. So, leave at least 60 cm between the back of the
table and the wall. Position the rotary pump on a stable floor surface so that there is enough distance between it and
the MS unit for the evacuation hose from the MS to be connected. (System performance cannot be guaranteed if the
length of the hose is extended beyond that distance.)
2.5 Other Installation Conditions
Room temperature: 18 - 28 °C (During data acquisition, the room temperature must be constant.)
* Temperature changes in a short period of time could cause the instrument to be unstable. To ensure stable data
acquisition, limit temperature changes in a short period of time to within 3 °C.
* Operating outside this range could compromise the reliability of the vacuum pump. So, make sure that the
temperature is kept within this range day and night.
Humidity: 20 % - 70 % (No condensation. Do not leave in a discharge state caused by static electricity.)
Overvoltage category : Category II (IEC)
Pollution degree : 2 (IEC)
In accordance with IEC standards, this instrument is rated for installation category II, pollution degree 2, operating
altitude up to 2000 m, and indoor use.
The instrument must be out of direct air blasts from heaters and air conditioners.
The instrument must be positioned out of the direct sunlight.
The instrument must not be subjected to vibration.
