4.6 Details of the enclosure
Degree of protection
The degree of protection depends on the parts used, like the cable entries, blanking plugs and
breather glands.
The nameplate species the degree of protection for which the enclosure is designed.
Ambient temperature
The ambient temperature range of the I/O device depends on the temperature range of the
components used.
The nameplate indicates the permissible ambient temperature range in each case.
The maximum permissible operating temperature of the components and the power
dissipation occurring in the enclosure may limit the ambient temperature range for the total
conguration. This is checked at the factory for each cabinet.
Breather glands provide pressure compensation and drainage in the event of varying climatic
conditions.
In the case of aggressive environments, check whether use of the enclosure is possible with
the material in question.
