I/O configuration variants
The following configuration variants are available for the input/output modules:
● In stand-alone operation: single-sided configuration.
In the single-sided configuration, there is a single set of the input/output modules (single-
channel) that are addressed by the CPU.
● In redundant operation: Single-channel switched configuration with enhanced availability.
In the single-channel switched distributed configuration, there is a single set of the I/O
modules, but they can be addressed by both subsystems.
● In redundant operation: two-channel redundant configuration with maximum availability.
In the two-channel redundant configuration there are two sets of the I/O modules that can
be addressed by both subsystems.

Tools for configuring (STEP 7 - HW Config, PCS 7)
Like the S7-400, the CPU 410-5H Process Automation is also configured with HW Config.
Restrictions for the configuration of the CPUs and the fault-tolerant system can be found in
the HW Config online help.
