TheFrequencyfunctionisusedtocontrolthecentrefrequencyoftheacoustic
transmissions(pings).Thecentrefrequencycanbechangedfrom20to30kHzinsteps
of1kHz.Alltypesofnoisematterwhenyouwishtondthebestoperatingfrequency.
Context
Alowerfrequencygivesyouabetterdetectionrangebecausetheattenuationlossis
smaller.Ahigherfrequencygivesyoubetterrangeresolution.Ahigherfrequencyalso
givesyounarrowerbeamsanda"sharper"image".
Noisefrominternalandexternalsourceshaveanimpactonthechoiceofoperating
frequency.Onespecicfrequencymayperformbetterthantheothersonyourvessel.
Tomeasurethenoiselevel,observethevaluepresentedontheNoisepageintheBITE
dialogbox.
Werecommendthatyoudothistesttwice.First,dothetestwithallotherhydroacoustic
systems(echosounders,ADCP ,sonars)turnedoff.Second,dothetestwithnormal
operatingconditions.Thisallowsyoutoseehowtheotherhydroacousticsystemsaffect
