● Lift detent catch (4) and pull mulch
insert (1) diagonally upwards out of the
discharge chute.
● Close the discharge flap (rear
discharge mower) or attach the grass
catcher box and close the ejection flap
(grass collector).
10.4 How should mulching be
performed?
A cutting height between 4 and 7 should
be selected for mulching, as this is the
most suitable height for shredding the
grass.
If the cutting height is too low, the mower
housing may become clogged, resulting in
blockage of the mowing blade.
It is important to select the correct
operating speed and cutting height for
mulching to allow the multi-blade to
achieve optimal grass shredding and a
good cutting pattern.
In high grass, it is advisable to work in
several stages and in the higher cutting
height settings.
Mulching should not be performed when
the grass is too high or wet.
11.1 Starting the engine
● Check the oil and fuel levels. (Ö 7.6)
RM 545, RM 545 T, RM 545 V,
RM 545 VM, RM 545 VR:
● 1 Press motorstop lever (1) to
the handlebar and hold.
● 2 Slowly pull out recoil starter rope (2)
to the point of compression resistance.
Then pull vigorously and quickly to
arm’s length. Slowly return recoil starter
rope (2) again so that it is rolled up
again.
● Repeat the procedure until the engine
starts.
RM 545 VE:
● Checking the battery:
Check the charge state of the
battery and recharge if necessary.
(Ö 8.6)
● 1 Insert battery (3).
● 2 Press motorstop lever (1) to the
handlebar and hold.
● 3 Press start button (4) for max. 5
seconds and then release again. If the
engine does not start, wait for 1 minute
before trying again. Avoid repeat
starting when the engine is running.
11.2 Stopping the engine
● To stop the engine, release
motorstop lever (1).
Engine and mowing blade come to a
stop after a short run-down time.
● RM 545 VE: If the machine is
unsupervised, remove the battery and
store it separately from the machine as
well as protected from unauthorised
use (e.g. by children).
11.3 Self-propulsion
The lawn mowers RM 545 T,
RM 545 V, RM 545 VE,
RM 545 VM, RM 545 VR are equipped
with self-propulsion.
RM 545 T:
One forward drive speed (single-speed
gearbox)
3,6 km/h
RM 545 V, RM 545 VE, RM 545 VM,
RM 545 VR:
Continuously variable forward drive speed
when driving (Vario gearbox)
2,2 km/h – 3,8 km/h
RM 545 VR: 2,4 km/h – 4,0 km/h
Switching on self-propulsion:
● Start the engine. (Ö 11.1)
● Pull self-propulsion lever (1) to the
handlebar and hold.
Self-propulsion is switched on and the
lawn mower moves forwards.
Setting the drive speed (RM 545 V,
RM 545 VE, RM 545 VM, RM 545 VR):
11. Operating the machine
Avoid damage to the machine!
Do not start the engine in tall grass.
Select a higher cutting height
setting if the engine is difficult to
start.
Thanks to the fixed throttle setting,
the engine always operates at the
optimum working speed after
starting.

Avoid damage to the machine!
Always actuate the self-propulsion
lever fully (to the stop) in order to
prevent resultant damage to the
gearbox.
Avoid damage to the machine!
Only actuate Vario drive lever (2)
when the engine is running.
