5 Diagnostics – Core Test Suite (CTS)
5.1 Overview
CTS is a software for testing the operatability of DSP cards. It provides a GUI to easily start/stop tests on the
various processors on the DSP cards, download/change firmware and monitor voltages and temperatures.
The upper half of the screen represents the live monitoring. In the lower left a log window displays runtime user
information like the current progress of a batch test. In the lower right a Dialog box for single tests is to be
found. The rest of the functionality can be reached via the menu bar.
5.2 Components
5.2.1 Log Window
The Log Window provides both user information and error messages. In case a severe error occurs, a message
box is displayed in addition. At all times it is possible to clear the content of that window (View-
>DebugWindow > Clear), but all information inside the Log Window will be permanently lost.
5.2.2 Live Monitoring
In the upper half of the screen the six DSP card slots of the Compact SCore are displayed. If DSP cards are
inserted, they are shown in the respective slots. For each DSP card nine values represent status information.
Type and revision are constant and only updated once when the card is inserted or scanned when the software
starts up. Further on there are seven values, five of them indicating the current voltage levels on this board (5V,
3.3V, 2.5V, 1.8V, 1.5V) and two representing temperature levels. These values are monitored via an I2C-
Interface. On each DSP card there is a chip monitoring these values. This chip is capable of delivering one value
per second. Thus every second on all boards one of these values is updated. An arrow on the left of the slots
points to the latest updated value. For each of these values exists a user-definable boundary. In case the
monitored values exceed either the lower or the upper boundary an error message is written to the log window.
This message is repeated whenever the value gets even more out of range. For how to define those boundaries
see chapter 6.3 “Configuration Files”.
