repeater A repeater is a relaying site, usually
situated above a city or town. The
repeater extends the range of radio
communications by receiving and re-
transmitting signals received from
radios.
RF Radio Frequency, the part of the
electromagnetic spectrum that is
suitable for radio transmissions. The
frequency of the RF signal is described
in terms of the number of cycles per
second or Hertz
(Hz).
RSSI Received Signal Strength Indicator, an
icon or number that shows the strength
of a received signal.

traffic
channel
The traffic channel is the channel on a
trunking system to which the parties
participating in a call are directed to for
the duration of the call. When the call
ends, the traffic channel is returned to
the pool of channels for use in a new
call.
trunking
operation
In trunking operation, the trunking
system manages the communications
channels used by the radio, and shares
a number of channels among a large
number of radio users.
