SECTION
2-2
SOLENOID
DRIVE
CIRCUIT
Three
solenoids
are
incorporated
in
the
C-1.
Their
func-
tions
are
as
follows:
Head
Solenoid
-
Pulls
the
erase
and
R/P
heads
into
the
cas-
sette,
so
as
to
make
contact
with
the
tape.
It
also
pulls
the
pinch
roller
to
the
pause
position.
Brake
solenoid
-
Removes
the
brake
from
the
reel
table.
Pinch
solenoid
-
Pushes
the
pinch
roller
into
contact
with
the
captsan
shaft
to
run
the
tape.
Notes:
Each
of
the
above
solenoids
is
actuated
by
a
relatively
high
voltage
(+24V)
and
then
maintained
at
a
lower
voltage
(+10V).
This
two-stage
solenoid
operating
system
applies
a
greater
motivating
force
to
the
solenoid
plunger
when
it
is
first
activated,
but
maintains
the
solenid
in
operation
at
a
lower
voltage
so as
to
prevent
unnecessary
temperature
rise
in
the
solenoid.
The
maximum
voltage
applied
to
the
solenoids
for
extended
periods
is
limited
to
12V.
