Motor Speed Control by Pulse-Width Modulation
Pulse-width modulation is used for controlling the speed of a DC motor or the luminance of an LED (Light Emitting Diode).
Use the arbitrary/function generator PWM function to control the DC motor speed.
1. Connect the arbitrary/function genera-
tor output and a DUT using a
BNC-to-alligator clip adapter.
2. Select Pulse as an output waveform
and then select PWM as a modulation
type.
Set the frequency to approximately
100 kHz.
3. Connect the output to an oscilloscope.
Confirm that a pulse-width modulation
waveform is displayed on the oscillo-
scope screen.
Select Pulse Duty and change the duty
rate. Observe that the motor speed
changes if you change the duty rate.
