usedforaccesstotheharddiskdrive.IfnomasterHDPisavailable,neitherLenovonorLenovoauthorized
servicetechniciansprovideanyservicestoreseteithertheuserorthemasterHDP ,ortorecoverdatafrom
theharddiskdrive.Theharddiskdrivecanbereplacedforascheduledfee.

Supervisorpassword
Asupervisorpassword(SVP)protectsthesysteminformationstoredintheBIOSSetupUtility(ThinkPad
SetupforThinkPadX120e).TheusermustentertheSVPinordertogetaccesstotheBIOSSetupUtilityor
ThinkPadSetupandchangethesystemconguration.
Attention:IftheSVPhasbeenforgottenandcannotbemadeavailabletotheservicetechnician,thereisno
serviceproceduretoresetthepassword.Thesystemboardmustbereplacedforascheduledfee.
Howtoremovethepower-onpassword
ToremoveaPOPthatyouhaveforgotten,dothefollowing:
(A)IfnoSVPhasbeenset:
1.Turnoffthecomputer.
2.Removethebatterypack.Forhowtoremovethebatterypack,see“1010Batterypack”onpage54.
3.Removethebackupbattery.Forhowtoremovethebackupbattery,see“1130Systemboard,fan
assembly,andbackupbattery”onpage75.
4.TurnonthecomputerandwaituntilthePOSTends.AfterthePOSTends,thepasswordpromptdoes
notappear.ThePOPhasbeenremoved.
5.Reinstallthebackupbatteryandthebatterypack.
(B)IfanSVPhasbeensetandisknownbytheservicetechnician:
1.Turnonthecomputer.
2.WhentheThinkPadlogocomesup,immediatelypressF1toenterBIOSSetupUtility(ThinkPadSetup
forThinkPadX120e).
3.Typethesupervisorpasswordwhenthesystemrequiresapasswordandpressenter.TheBIOSSetup
Utilitywindow(ThinkPadSetupwidnowforX120e)opens.
4.SelectSecurity,usingthecursordirectionalkeystomovedownthemenu.
5.SelectPassword.
6.SelectPower-OnPassword.
7.TypethecurrentPower-OnPasswordintheEnterCurrentPasswordeld.thenleavetheEnter
NewPasswordeldblank,andpressEntertwice.
8.Inthe“Changeshavebeensaved”window,pressEnter.
9.PressF10;then,intheSetupconrmationwindow,selectY es.
Howtoremovethehard-diskpassword
Attention:IfUseronlymodeisselectedandtheuserHDPhasbeenforgottenandcannotbemade
availabletotheservicetechnician,neitherLenovonorLenovoauthorizedservicetechniciansprovideany
servicestoresettheuserHDPsortorecoverdatafromtheharddiskdrive.Theharddiskdrivecanbe
replacedforascheduledfee.
