Weareyeprotection,gloves,andanyother
protectiveequipmentrecommendedbythe
chemicalmanufacturer.
Usethespreadertodispersesfree-owinggranular
substancessuchasgrassseed,fertilizer,icemelt,
etc.Whenyouusethespreader,rstllthegranular
hopper,thenapplythegranularmaterialstothework
site,andnallycleanthehopper.
Important:Whenyouuseyourspreader,
thoroughlycleanitattheendoftheday.
BeforeOperatingtheSpreader
Beforeyoustartusingthespreader,calibratethe
spreaderforthematerialthatyouwilldisperse;refer
toCalibratingtheSpreader(page24).
Important:Priortollingthehopper,verifythat
youhavesettheproperspreader-applicationrate.
CalibratingtheSpreader
Calibratethespreadereachtimeyouuseanew
material.Thespreaderbroadcastsmaterialina
pattern1.5to6.7m(5to22ft)widedependingonthe
materialparticlesize,volume/density,rateoftravel,
andwindconditions.
UsetheSpreadingCharts(page30)alongwith
informationfromDeterminingtheDistributionPattern
(page25),DeterminingtheEffectiveSpreadingWidth
(page25),andCalculatingtheApplicationRate(page
26)whencalibratingthespreader.
PreparingtheTestSiteandMachine
Operatorsuppliedequipment:15shallowcollection
pansand15graduatedmeasuringcylinders
Note:Themostaccuratemethodtomeasure
thedistributionusesshallowcollectionpansand
graduatedmeasuringcylinders.Intheexamplebelow,
the15shallowcollectionpansapproximately30cm
(12inches)wide,91cm(36inches)long,and5cm
(2inches)tall.
