ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily
Theengineisshippedwith1.4L(1.5USqt)(w/lter)ofoil
inthecrankcase;however,youmustchecktheoillevelbefore
andafterstartingtheenginethersttime.
Theengineusesanyhigh-qualitydetergentoilhavingthe
AmericanPetroleumInstitute(API)serviceclassicationof
SG,SH,orSJorhigher.Therecommendedviscosity(weight)
isSAE30.
1.Positionthemachineonalevelsurfaceandstopthe
engine.Waitafewminutesbeforecheckingtheoil.
2.Pullthedipstickoutandwipeitwithacleanrag.Push
thedipstickintothetubeandmakesureitisseated
fully(Figure21).

valvecoverandpouroilintotheopeninginthevalve

dipstick.Addtheoilslowlyandchecktheleveloften
duringthisprocess.Donotoverll.
5.Installthellercapanddipstickrmlyinplace.

daysold),unleadedgasolinewithanoctaneratingof
87orhigher((R+M)/2ratingmethod).
–Ethanol:Gasolinewithupto10%ethanol(gasohol)
or15%MTBE(methyltertiarybutylether)by
volumeisacceptable.EthanolandMTBEarenotthe
same.Gasolinewith15%ethanol(E15)byvolume
isnotapprovedforuse.Neverusegasolinethat
containsmorethan10%ethanolbyvolume,
suchasE15(contains15%ethanol),E20(contains
20%ethanol),orE85(containsupto85%ethanol).
Usingunapprovedgasolinemaycauseperformance
problemsand/orenginedamage,whichmaynotbe
coveredunderthewarranty.
