WARNING

ofthecarburetorandspeedcontrol.Contactwith

•Shiftintoneutralandengagetheparkingbrake
beforeperformingthisprocedure.
•Keephands,feet,clothing,andotherbodyparts
awayfromthecuttingblades,rotatingparts,the
mufer,andotherhotsurfaces.
1.Starttheengineandletitrunathalfthrottlefor
approximately5minutestowarmup.
2.MovethethrottlelevertotheSLOWsetting.Adjust
theidlestopscrewcounterclockwiseuntilitnolonger
contactsthethrottlelever.
3.Bendthegovernedidlespringanchortang(Figure50)
toattainanidlespeedof1550to1750rpm.Checkthe
speedwithatachometer.

ServiceInterval:Every800hours
Therecommendedairgapis0.76mm(0.030inch)
ThecorrectsparkplugtouseisaChampionRC14YC.
Note:Thesparkplugusuallylastsalongtime;however,
removeandchecktheplugswhenevertheengine
malfunctions.
1.Cleantheareaaroundthesparkplugssoforeignmatter
cannotfallintothecylinder.
2.Pullthewiresoffofthesparkplugsandremovethe
plugs.
3.Checktheconditionofthesideelectrode,center
electrode,andcenterelectrodeinsulatortoensurethat
thereisnodamage.
Important:Replaceacracked,fouled,dirty,or
otherwisemalfunctioningsparkplug.Donotsand
blast,scrape,orcleanelectrodesbyusingawire
brushbecausegritmayeventuallyreleasefromthe
plug,fallintothecylinder,anddamagetheengine.
4.Settheairgapbetweenthecenterandsideofthe
electrodesat0.76mm(0.030inch)(Figure51).

5.Installthecorrectly-gappedsparkplugwithagasket
seal,andtightentheplugto23N∙m(200in-lb).Ifyou
donothaveatorquewrench,tightentheplugrmly.
