Stopping the Machine
T o stop the mac hine , mo v e the traction control
lev ers to neutral and to the loc k ed position,
diseng ag e the po w er tak e off (PTO), mo v e the
throttle to the Slo w position, and stop the engine .
Set the parking brak e when y ou lea v e the mac hine;
refer to Setting the P arking Brak e in Operation ,
pag e 25 . R emember to remo v e the k ey from the
ignition switc h.
Childr en or bystander s may be injur ed if
they attempt to mo v e or operate the tractor
while it is unattended.
Al w ays r emo v e the ignition k ey and set the
par king brak e when lea ving the machine
unattended, ev en if just f or a few min utes.
Operating the Mower
Raising and Lowering the Mower
T he dec k lift lev er raises and lo w ers the mo w er
dec k ( Figure 19 ). T he engine m ust be r unning for
y ou to use this lev er .

• T o lo w er the mo w er dec k, push the lev er
forw ard.
• T o raise the mo v er dec k, pull the lev er
rearw ard.
Important: Do not contin ue to hold the
lev er back or f orw ard after the mo w er has full y
raised or lo w er ed. Doing so will dama ge the
h y draulic system.
Note: T o loc k the mo w er dec k in a raised
position, raise the dec k past the 6 inc h (15 cm)
position, remo v e the height of cut stop pin (refer
to Adjusting the Height-of-Cut), and place the
pin in the 6 inc h (15 cm) height-of-cut position
( Figure 21 ).
Engaging the Power Take Off (PTO)
T he po w er tak e off (PTO) switc h star ts and stops
the mo w er blades and some po w ered attac hments .
1. If the engine is cold, allo w the engine to w ar m
up 5 to 10 min utes before eng aging the PTO .
2. W hile seated in the seat, release the pressure
on the traction control lev ers and place them
in neutral.
3. Pull up on the PTO switc h to eng ag e it
( Figure 20 ).
