Changing the Hydraulic Oil
And Filter
Initially , re place the h y draulic oil filter after the
first 200 hours of operation.
R e place the filter and oil after ev er y 800 hours of
operation.
1. Diseng ag e the PTO , mo v e the motion control
lev ers to the neutral loc k ed position and set
the parking brak e .
2. Mo v e the throttle lev er to the Slo w position,
stop the engine , remo v e the k ey , and w ait for
all mo ving par ts to stop before lea ving the
operating position.
3. Place a larg e pan under the h y draulic reser v oir
and transmission case and remo v e the plugs ,
draining all of the h y draulic fluid ( Figure 69 ).

4. Clean the area around the h y draulic oil filter
and remo v e it ( Figure 69 ).
5. Immediately install a new h y draulic oil filter .
6. Install the h y draulic reser v oir and transmission
case drain plugs .
7. Fill the reser v oir to the proper lev el
(appro ximately 6 quar ts); refer to Chec king the
Hy draulic Fluid.
8. Star t the engine and c hec k for oil leaks . Allo w
the engine to r un for about fiv e min utes , then
shut it off .
9. After tw o min utes , c hec k the lev el of the
h y draulic fluid; refer to Chec king the Hy draulic
Fluid.
Mower Deck
Maintenance
If y ou raise the machine using onl y a jack to
suppor t it while y ou w or k under the mo w er
deck, the jack could tip , causing the mo w er
deck to f all, cr ushing y ou or bystander s.
Al w ays secur e the machine with at least 2
jack stands when y ou ha v e the mo w er deck
raised.
On the top of the mo w er deck ar e tw o links
that connect them to the frame. Connected
to these links ar e tor sion spring that ar e
under tension ( Figur e 70 ). If y ou disconnect
the link the stor ed energ y in the tor sion
spring will be r eleased and could cause the
links to mo v e, dama ging y our hands or
finger s.
Be car eful when r emo ving the mo w er deck
fr om the frame and secur e the links bef or e
disconnecting them fr om the frame.
