Changing the
oil and filter An oil change can be carried
out when the boat is afloat or ashore. If the boat is
afloat an oil drain pump must be used. If the oil change
is carried out with the boat ashore, the IPS unit can be
drained according to alternative B.
Refer to Sterndrive for oil grade and volume.
IMPORTANT!
Never overfill the drive with oil. The oil level must
always be between the marks on the oil dipstick, oth-
erwise shift function will be impaired
IMPORTANT!
After an oil change, the water-in-oil sensor must be
calibrated. For information regarding calibration, refer
to Service page 121.

Alternative A; draining using an oil drain pump
1 1 Open the oil filler cap (1
) and the plug (2) so
that excess pressure is released.
Fit the adapter (3) and connect the oil drain
pump suction hose. If the suction hose does not
fit the adapter, also use the sleeve (3A).
Pump out as much oil as possible, approx 22
liters.
2 The oil that collects in the bottom of the drive
must also be pumped out. Remove the adapter
from the drive and connect the 1320 mm long
hose to the adapter (3). Pump out the remaining
quantity of oil; the total is around 30 liters
3 Change the filter (4).
4 Remove the oil drain pump and hose. Reinstall
the plug (2); tightening torque 20 Nm.
5 Measure out the correct volume of oil and fill the
drive via the oil filler hole; refer to Sterndrive for
oil grade and volume.
6 Calibrate the water-in-oil sensor; refer to
Service page 121.
