11.4 Tests / Simulations
What is to be tested? What must be done?
Response time test
Response time < 0.44 s.
There are no requirements for the trailer regarding actuating
time.
Regulations:
98/12/EC Annex III
ECE R 13, Annex 6
With CTU: Preparations
Set LSV to ‘laden’.
If necessary, set the brake close.
Power consumption by ABS - equivalent actuations
Based on the number of equivalent actuations (n
e
) from the
ABS certificate (§ 2.5), there must still be pressure in the
cylinder for a 22.5 % deceleration at the last brake actuation.
Disc brake:
n
e
_EC = 11 actuations
n
e
_ECE = 12 actuations
Drum brake:
n
e
_EC = 11 actuations
n
e
_ECE = 13 actuations
Regulation:
98/12/EC Annex XIV
Fill the trailer reservoir to 8 bar.
At the yellow coupling head with 6.5 bar, brake with the
number n
e
.
Shut off the supply.
During the last actuation, maintain pressure and measure
the cylinder pressure.
Power consumption by spring-type brake actuator
Demonstrate whether the parking brake of the unhitched
vehicle can be released at least three times.
Regulations:
98/12/EG Annex V, § 2.4
ECE R 13, Annex 8, § 2.4
Support axle(s) with spring-type brake actuator on blocks.
Charge the trailer to 6.5 bar supply pressure (7.5 bar for
ECE acceptance).
Unhitch the vehicle.
Release automatic braking (black button).
Vent and charge air into the parking brake system (spring-
type brake actuator) three times by pressing the red but-
ton.
It must still be possible to turn the wheels with spring-type
brake actuators.
Start of braking of spring-type brake actuators
Demonstrate that the start of braking of spring-type brake
actuators is not greater than the supply pressure after 4 com-
plete actuations.
Regulations:
98/12/EG Annex V, § 2.5
ECE R 13, Annex 8, § 2.5
Turn ignition off.
Support axle(s) with spring-type brake actuator on blocks.
Shut off the supply.
Charge the trailer to 6.5 bar supply pressure (7 bar for
ECE acceptance).
Vent and charge air into the parking brake system (spring-
type brake actuator) by pressing the red button until a
wheel with a spring-type brake actuator can no longer be
turned.
Measure the supply pressure.
Charge the trailer back up to 6.5 bar reservoir pressure
(7 bar for ECE acceptance).
Use coupling head to completely actuate 4 times.
Measure the supply pressure.
The reservoir pressure at the start of braking of the spring-
type brake actuators must be less than the supply pressure
after 4 complete actuations.
