8.8 Installation of TailGUARD components
Required components
In addition to TEBS E, ELEX, LIN ultrasonic sensors, the Trailer Remote Control
(optional) and respective cables are required. The rear lights and reversing lights
must be connected though a junction box to ELEX via ISO 12098. As an alternative
the clearance lights can be connected directly on the ELEX to GIO11.

The TailGUARD function is only possible with the ISO 7638 connection plugged in.
A 24N supply is not sufficient.
LIN ultrasonic sensors
WARNING
Risk of accidents: TailGUARD function not available due to incorrect installa-
tion of LIN ultrasonic sensors
Install the LIN ultrasonic sensors according to the diagrams.
If the LIN ultrasonic sensors are installed incorrectly, objects may not be de-
tected so that the correct function of the system cannot be guaranteed.
The LIN ultrasonic sensors are not to be mounted in a U-profile because this could
cause reflections. It is recommended to mount the LIN ultrasonic sensors me-
chanically protected to avoid damage when the system is deactivated.
The surface where the LIN ultrasonic sensor is mounted must be level and must be
a minimum of 2 mm bigger than the LIN ultrasonic sensor (protection of drainage
holes in the rear against direct high-pressure cleaning).

Open the WABCO website http://www.wabco-auto.com

Here click on Product catalogue INFORM.
Enter the part number of the LIN ultrasonic sensor into the Product Number field.
Click on the Start button.
Click the Publications radio button.
Since all ultrasonic sensors communicate in parallel via a data bus, an optional,
parallel circuit on GIO17 and GIO18 is possible. Please note the information in se-
lection ‘TailGUARD functions’, see chapter 9.1 ‘Parameter definition with TEBS E
Diagnostic Software’, page 165.
