5. Check start-in-gear protection.
a. Shift in forward/reverse.
b. Turn the key to “START.” The starter
motor should not turn over.
c. Shift into neutral.
d. Turn the key to the “START” position.
The starter motor should turn over.
6. Check the main switch.
a. Turn the main switch to “ON” from
“OFF” then to “START.” The starter motor
starts the engine.
b. Turn the main switch to “OFF” from
“ON.” The running engine will stop.
7. Check the engine stop switch.
a. Run the engine.
b. Pull the lanyard off the lock plate. The
running engine will stop.
8. Check for steady engine speed.
a. Run the engine at idle.
b. Steer the tiller handle.
c. Tilt up/down the tiller handle. Make sure
that steady engine speed is kept.
