Overview

The Zepp E is a versatile smartwatch designed to enhance daily activity, health monitoring, and convenience. It offers a range of features, from basic timekeeping and notifications to advanced workout tracking and physiological data analysis.

Function Description

The Zepp E primarily functions as a wearable smart device that connects to a mobile phone via the Zepp app. Its core capabilities include:

  • Timekeeping and Display: The watch displays time in either 12-hour or 24-hour format, automatically synchronizing with the connected phone's system time. It features various watch faces, some of which support widgets to display information like steps, calories, and weather. An "Always On Display" feature allows the screen to show some information even in standby, though this impacts battery life.
  • Notifications and Alerts: When connected to a phone, the watch receives notifications from selected apps and displays incoming call alerts. Users can choose to answer calls on the phone or ignore them directly from the watch.
  • Workout Tracking: The device offers 11 distinct workout modes, including Outdoor Running, Walking, Outdoor Cycling, Treadmill, Indoor Cycling, Pool Swimming, Elliptical, Climbing, Trail Running, Skiing, and Free training. It records workout data such as distance, duration, and calories. For outdoor activities, it can leverage the phone's GPS for more accurate data.
  • Health Monitoring: The Zepp E provides comprehensive health tracking, including:
    • PAI (Personal Activity Intelligence): A physiological activity indicator based on heart rate data, daily activity intensity, and a multi-dimensional dynamic comprehensive evaluation. It helps users understand their physical condition and aims to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease when maintained above a certain value.
    • Activity Goal Tracking: Automatically records steps, calorie consumption, stand-up times, and running/walking distance. It calculates fat-burning minutes based on heart rate data, with daily goals for activity, fat-burning, and stand-up.
    • Idle Alerts: Monitors activity status and prompts users to exercise if no activity is detected for a certain period within an hour.
    • Heart Rate Monitoring: Measures heart rate, with options for automatic detection at set frequencies and increased frequency during exercise. It also features heart rate alerts if the measured rate exceeds a set value without activity.
    • Sleep Tracking: Automatically records sleep quality, including duration, stages, and a sleep score. The "Sleep Assistant" feature provides more accurate information, especially during the REM sleep stage.
    • SpO2 (Blood Oxygen Saturation) Measurement: An important physiological parameter of the respiratory cycle, which can be measured manually or during workouts.
  • Utility Apps: Includes a schedule app for reminders, a weather app for current and 7-day forecasts, a compass for orientation, and an alarm function with nap mode.
  • Music Control: Allows users to control the phone's music player (pause, adjust volume, switch songs) directly from the watch during workouts or general use.
  • Find My Phone/Watch: Helps locate a misplaced phone by making it vibrate and ring, or locate the watch by making it vibrate.

Usage Features

The Zepp E is designed for intuitive interaction:

  • Navigation:
    • Tap on the screen: Selects features, items, or proceeds to the next step.
    • Tap and hold the watch face: Activates watch face options and settings.
    • Cover the screen: Turns off the screen.
    • Swipe up/down and left/right: Scrolls through or switches screens. Swiping right on certain screens returns to the previous screen.
    • Press the side button: Wakes the watch, goes to the app list, or returns to the watch face.
    • Long press the side button (1 second): Quick-starts a specified app (workout app by default, customizable).
    • Long press the side button (5 seconds): Accesses the power off menu (turn off or reboot).
    • Long press the side button (10 seconds): Forces a shut-off.
  • Customization:
    • Watch Faces: Users can choose from built-in watch faces, synchronize online watch faces from the Zepp app's Watch Face Mall, or create custom watch faces using images from their phone. Watch face widgets can be edited to display preferred information.
    • Quick Access Apps: Frequently used apps and features can be added to quick access for easy reach from the watch face.
    • Unit Conversion: Distance and weight units can be set in the Zepp app, with the watch automatically using the phone's units during data synchronization.
  • Workout Control: During workouts, users can swipe left to access the music player, swipe up/down to view different data records, and swipe right to suspend, continue, end the workout, or lock the screen.
  • Compass Calibration: Requires drawing a figure-8 in the air with the watch to calibrate against interference.
  • Alarm Management: Alarms can be added, set for repetition, turned on/off, and deleted by tapping and holding.

Maintenance Features

  • Charging: The watch uses a magnetic charging base. It's important to use the original charging base and ensure the charging port is dry. The USB port should be connected to a computer USB port or a mobile phone charger with an output current above 1A.
  • Strap Replacement: The strap can be attached or detached as illustrated in the manual. Users should ensure secure attachment by pulling on the strap with appropriate force.
  • Strap Material Consideration: The leather strap is not waterproof. It is recommended to switch to a fluororubber or silica gel strap when contact with liquid (e.g., swimming) cannot be avoided.
  • System Updates: The watch system can be updated via the Zepp app when connected to the phone. Users are advised to update when a system update push is received.
  • Data Synchronization: Workout data and health records should be promptly synchronized to the Zepp app to prevent overwriting due to limited storage on the watch.
  • Health Measurement Precautions:
    • SpO2: Wear the watch a finger's distance from the carpal (ulnar) and at an appropriate tightness. During measurement, keep the arm flat and still, and maintain a comfortable distance between the watch and skin. External factors like arm hair, tattoos, arm sway, or low temperature can affect accuracy. The SpO2 feature is for reference only and not for medical diagnosis.
    • Heart Rate: Wear the watch correctly, ensuring the contact portion with the skin is clean and free of sunscreen smear for accurate measurement.
  • App Background Operation (Android): For features like notifications, incoming call alerts, and music control to function reliably on Android, the Zepp app needs to be added to the phone's background whitelist or auto-start list to ensure it runs continuously. If the background process is cleared, the watch may disconnect and lose these functionalities.
  • Compass Usage: To maintain accuracy, keep the watch away from magnetic fields and hold it level when using the compass.
