canbesettoshutdown,restrict(stoppingMACaddresslearning,
droppingpacketswithunknownMACaddresses,andsendingan
alarm),orprotect(stoppingMACaddresslearning,anddropping
packetswithunknownMACaddresses).
TheMACaddressofEthernetNICis48bits.The48bitsincludetwoparts.Therst
24bitsareusedtorepresentthemanufacturerindicatingEthernetNIC.Theremaining
24bitsareagroupofsequencenumbersdesignatedbythemanufacturerandnamedas
OrganizationallyUniqueIdentier(OUI).Thelowestbit(themostleftbitinthestructure)
isnamedasaprivateorgroupbit.Ifthisbitissetto0,theremainingaddressisaprivate
address.
Ifthisbitissetto1,theremainingaddressdomainidentiesthegroupaddressrequiring
moreresolution.IfthewholeOUIissetto1,eachsiteofthewholenetworkisadestination.
