5.2 Specific functions for IP sets
5.2.1 PC switch
IP sets have an RJ45 socket for connection to a PC, which makes it possible to connect the set
and PC to the same network socket.
The IP set is inserted between the PC and the network. It manages both voice and data traffic
using an Ethernet switch that is also called a PC switch.
This PC switch prioritises voice traffic over data traffic, which means that telephony packets have
priority over the PC packets. The PC packets pass transparently through the switch as 802.3
frames.
The PC switch function operates in the two Ethernet modes, i.e. 10 base T and 100 base TX.
5.2.2 Remote supply via the lan
Refer to Section 12.2.4.2.
For IP sets, two power supply modes are proposed:
Power supply via an external 48V power unit,
Remote supply via the LAN.
Remote supply via the LAN ensures service continuity in the event of mains failure.
Specific hubs are required on the network, which provide power and data via the cable.
IP sets supply power over the data pairs or separate pairs.
